About College
Chikkanna Government Arts College, Tiruppur, Tamilnadu is a Grade-I co-educational State Government Institution of higher learning affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Established in 1966, it has been catering to the educational needs of the student community of Tamilnadu. Spread over a sprawling 43 acre campus in the heart of the hosiery capital of India-Tiruppur, nearly 3500 students are presently enrolled in the college in its 14 UG courses and 9 PG and Research courses.
About Department
The Department of Physics is one of the oldest Departments in the college and offers Physics as a major course at the B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degree level as well as research courses like M.Phil. and Ph.D. The major thrust/research areas of the Department are Computational Solid State Physics, Nanotechnology, Thin Films, Non Linear Optics and Lasers. The Department can boast of a dedicated team of highly qualified faculty, an enriching atmosphere for the holistic development of the individual personality and an envious and friendly student-teacher interaction. Till date, the Department of Physics has received numerous research grants from DRDO, UGC, DST, State and Central Government as well as other Autonomous funding agencies and maintains well equipped laboratories and an exclusive computer lab with the latest systems and software.
